Sacramental Preparation from 2nd through 8th grade, and class for pre-k through 1st grade
Dear parents and young people, Welcome to our child and youth formation program! The purpose of our program, along with the reception of one or all of the Sacraments of Initiation, is full integration into the life of a local parish family. The word “initiation” indicates that Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation “begin” something, namely life in Christ in the context of a local Catholic Christian community. As a result our program is threefold: 1) Sunday Mass, which forms the core of all we do even when class is not in session and is the first and most important part of our program. 2) Weekly Class under the dedicated direction of our catechists, and 3) Service and participation which involves the parents of the children enrolled. This last aspect of our program is under development. Confirmation youth serve regularly. Children age seven (second grade) through middle school attend our Wednesday afternoon instruction. There are also a number of events throughout the year in which they are invited to participate. High school youth hold their meetings Thursday evenings. They also participate in our festivals and other seasonal parish programs. Two years is the time of preparation for 1) Baptism (for children who have already reached seven years of age), 2) First Holy Communion and/or 3) Confirmation, no matter which year one begins. Class for children Pre-K through 1st grade is also offered on Wednesdays. Thus we afford parents dropping off all their children together a brief moment of rest during the week! Note, however, that this is not considered part of the two-year sacramental formation program for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion which begins at age seven. For more information call our office, visit, or send a note to: ReligiousEd@stedwinabq.com
